Chandelier makeover

I figured that since I am starting a online portfolio for my school and later my job, I could start posting more silly projects here! This is my chandelier! I bought it used, and it was very boring, so I decided to give it a makeover! It got some spray paint, and now I finally found some small lamp shades, and now they have been made over to!

So after the summer holliday we started our bachelor films. I was assigned to a 10 pers. group with the project title Porcelain. It is a film about fishermen living in Denmark in the tlate 1800s! We have just started on the design phase, and on trying to get the story to work. I have the title of character designer, but I hope to also do some modeling, texturing and other work.

My exam this year. Not totally happy, but hey... I passed! We were given a low ress model, a photograph as a background and a scene set-up, and then we had the choice between two assignments. One focusing on the background and mattepainting, and the other focusing on the character and texturing.

I chose the character assignment.

I had to pose the character. Texture it, and compose it into the photo.

Mink turnaround

Turnaround of the character I modeled (from a basemesh by Mikkel Friborg) and textured for our commercial project. Had a lot of fun doing all of the normal- colour- and specularmaps.

After 5 weeks of work, this is the final result of our commercial project. A short spot made for "Dyrenes beskyttelse" (The danish animal welfare society) focusing on the issue of mink farming in denmark.

I did the modeling of the female mink (based on a base mesh by Mikkel Friborg). I also textured and shaded both minks!

So... I went to copenhagen for a couple of weeks to attend Dadiu (http://dadiu.dk/) The Danish Academy For Interactive Entertainment. I was a bit skeptical at first, but it ended up being an amazing experience.

People from different relevant educations (there was programmers, designers, gameplay designers and more) were put together in small teams to create a mini computergame in 5 weeks.

Our group made a cute little puzzle game called Raasool. It is about a little sun falling from the sky and solving puzzles to be able to get through the universe and back to his place shining. We put a lot of effort into the look and the feeling of the game, and I am pretty proud of the result. I mostly did 3D modeling and rigging, witch was a lot of fun.

The first week of our quadropet project is over (the design week)! For the first three days we were assigned an animator to work with on the design. I worked with Christoffer Andersen, who did all of the first sketches. This is some of the process and the final design. Just need to finish the turnaround!

I spent quite a long time on the big-ben model, and I am very happy with the result! This is it with it's wet texture!

Finally our trailer is done. One whole semester, and this is the end result. As I wrote earlier, we were to make a 30sec. trailer of Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo. We had to re-artdirect the film, and place it in a different time period.

We choose to make it a victorian detective story, set in London.

Our group consisted of Dennis Jensen, Søren Gravesen and me.
We were also assigned four animators who did all the animations for two weeks. A big than you to: Atli Hafsteinson, Aimall Sharifi, Josefine Hannibal and Christoffer Jensen.

The first weeks of theTrailer project

So we have just come back from the summer vacation (two months without any real drawing or computer) and have now started the project that is gonna fill this whole semester, the trailer project.
The class is split into groups and given an old movie that we have to re-artdirect and make a 30 sec trailer for. Our group was given Hitchcocks Vertigo. We have chosen to make it into a victorian detective story with very desatuated colours.

So our final exam of the first year came. We got a picture from a former stydent, and we had to pick a character from it. We had to do a turnaround and model and sculpt it from top of the head to about shoulder height! This is my result.

We have just ended an amazing week of conceptdevelopment with Peter Chan. We got a couple of pictures ripped out of a magazine and from that we had to create a creature, a character and an environment. I created this very sad monkey like animal.

We have just spent three weeks doing a light and render project! We had to furnish a pre-made scene and then do a timelapse with lights from midday to midnight. After that we composited in Fusion.

We have just had a weeks film jam. Our group had Jamie Calieri as a director, and made this small film.

The film is made by painting the single frames on a wall with acrylic paint and then photographing them. Then we painted it over and moved it a bit. With the help of Jamies software Dragon... everything turned out to become a film anyway!

We had to make a layout for a short animation that we were given. There had to be at least one background, underlayer and a single overlayer. It had to be at least three 9x16widescreen fields long.

This monday we started on a week of layout and a bit of perspective. Our first assignment was to make wide master shot of the the scene where the police just shot Bonnie and Clyde. We had to do some research and then do thumbs... leading to a final rendered layout in a 16x9 widescreen format.

Architecture week with Gulliermo.

We had a week of architecture, to give us some tools to make our background help tell the story better. We each chose a building from a list, to work with through out the week. We had to do research, and make models... and in the end we were to make our own version of the Sisyphus myth staged in our building. I chose the Villa Savoy, in France, Build by Le Corbusier in 1929.

My version of the Sisyphus myth. I wanted it to be something very triviel an boring that could apply to anyone. This is the woman hired to clean the house, day after day , when the many tourists leave.

From 2D to 3D

A bit further in the process. We are now beginning to turn our scene from 2D into 3D moddeling it in Maya. This is the first version of my Maya scene... pretty much just to get the layout right. I have changed a bit of things but for now I think it is comming along pretty good.

Freakshow

The project we are currently working at is a seven week project with sideshow freaks as the theme. Until now we have created our own freaks with the help og Chris Turnham and Kevin Dart.
This is the first concept drawings of my freak. He is called "Long Limbed Lenny" and his only real talent and curse is that he is born incredibly long and skinny.

Then we had to do a background. This is a light study i did as a thumbnail somewhere in the process.

A very wierd week with Lawrence Marwit

We had a week of design with Lawrence Marwit. It was a very strange week but incredible difficult. We had to taste and hear things and draw them abstractly.

Strawberry icecream. We were only supposed to use curves. It still have a piece of papar glued to it as a correction from the teacher.
Champagne. This time we were only supposed to use shapes.

Jazz. We were listening to Miles Davis.

Another two weeks of Maya

After Carla left we had another two weeks of Maya, but with Oliver Kirchhoff. The first I moddeled a small toy car and did a tiny animation. athe second week we had to moddel a caracter and rig it.

My very first experience with 3D was a two week thing with Carla Heintzel. At this point, my only real experience with computers as a tool was a bit of photoshop and I struggled a lot.

First we had to moddel a landscape of our own invention. This was my end result.

Then we worked in groups of two to produce an image with a bacground and at least one character. I did this with Tommy from my class.

Our week with Julia Bracegirdle

We had a pretty experimental week with Julia Bracegirdle. We splattered paint and drew chickens on our heads. As our final project we had to design a character from a Fairy-story called "Brave Molly". I choose to do the main character Molly.

This was my starting point. We were told to do a lot of pictures with bricolage. This was the one I settled on.
This was a later version of my Molly. Done in Photoshop.

Finally we did Maquettes of our designs. Later I painted mine with Acrylic paint.

Our first two weeks at the school went with a small film project. We got a text to inspire us, and had to make a min. 30sec. film from it. We had to use a real photo, invent a caracter and there had to be some movement. We didn´t get any help from the teachers and had to rely on our groups different skills.

This is some of the character designs I made for my portfolio when I applied to The Animatio Workshop. They are sketched by hand and coloured in Photoshop. It was my first work done digitally.

Eddie theVampire. He is not very scary, but he sleeps in a coffin and drinks blood.

My mad Scientist. I did this design after making a small sculpture that I was kind of fond of.

Otto the Butcher is really a very nice guy. He just have a problem with sweating. I like this design because I went so far out of my comfort zone at that point.
